Moers Festival
People in Moers work hard, and party harder. All throughout the year the city celebrates festivals that toast to faith, growth, music, art, history, and love. On top of these Moers festivals is The Nelkensamstagszug, the city's version of Mardi Gras where clowns, mascots, and colorful costumes and confettis reign. The Nelkensamstagszug is held on Homberger Moers, the main street of the city downtown.
Equal to the popularity of the Nelkensamstagzug is the Moers Festival of Jazz , a musical event being held during Pentecost. The Moers Festival started in 1972 and since then was held every year. As the name of the festival suggests, it highlights and explores the facets of Jazz, a musical genre people of Moers love. Every year thousands of visitors from neighboring regions and other countries visit Moers to join the community in celebrating this extravagant event. Today the Moers Festival expands its highlight by inviting national and international artists dealing with various musical genres.
Other events in Moers are The Park Festival, a party being held every two years to celebrate the historic Moers Castle; The International Comedy Arts Festival, a school-based festival championing the theatrical genre of laughter; The Annual Christmas Fair on Moers Square, city's children's most anticipated event. Recently there has been two additions: the Pattberg kite festival during fall and the hot air balloon festival.
